EVALUATION; Q8

LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE LEARNED IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL PRODUCT?

-Looking back at our preliminary, I feel that we have progressed, becoming more confident with using Final   Cut and Soundtrack Pro and we have learnt from our mistakes, taking them in to help us make the final production as good as it can be.

Preliminary;

Final Production;

-Looking at the preliminary and the final production, the CANDI Studios looks more professional and is more readable in the final production rather than in the preliminary, although we did not make it ourselves, it gives our opening a more  high quality professional look.

TITLES
-I feel that when adding titles to our preliminary, we rushed, as we spent too much time editing and adding sound that we did not have enough time to think about where the titles should go. But when it came to our final production, we looked back at what we have learned about opening sequences - where the titles should go, and thought carefully about where each one should go and what font/colour we wanted to use.

SOUND
-In the preliminary, we worked so much on the sound, which is another reason why we didn't have enough time to add the titles, but when it came to the final production, we used our time wisely and worked on each different aspect equally.

CAMERA SHOTS
-We used simple shots in the preliminary and didn't vary the shots much, we had lots of medium shots and and close ups, but when it came to the final production I feel that we also didn't vary our shots, we also had lots of medium shots, but hardly any close ups.

MISE EN SCENE
-For the preliminary, we didn't take much thought into it apart from the gun we used and the scene, for costumes, we didn't plan anything for that so Ethel and Fatama just wore what they were wearing on that day. However, for the final production, we took so much thought into it, as we had to change the way our character looked from the first time we started filming. The scene where we were filming helped us to make our decision as it was an ordinary bedroom and we felt that the character we had before didn't fit in with the scene.

EVALUATION; Q7

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?

-Throughout the making of our film, we have come across new technologies that we probably have never even heard of or used ourselves, we have adapted and learnt how to use each new technology and incorporated our skills in our film, the video below shows and explains in full detail about each technology we have come across and how we used them when making our final product.

EVALUATION; Q3

WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?

-When getting feedback from the class 30-40% of the class said that they would pay to watch our film. Most of them suggested that it would be suitable for 18-30 year olds as it is a psychological thriller and they would want to watch the film, as they would understand what is going on, they also suggested that it should be an age rating of 15, so that the younger generation could watch.

-Below is an animated version of how the target audience might look;

-And this is what she might look like in real life, an ordinary 18 year old, who attends college.

-This is what you might find in her bag;

EVALUATION; Q4&5

WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY? HOW WILL YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS YOUR AUDIENCE?

-The Prezi below shows ways in which our film could be distributed;

-Social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Youtube are good for distributing our film as many people use social networking sites, this also helps are target audience of about 18 - 30 years old as many people of that age tend to use social networking sites like these.

-Distributing our film on video sharing sites such as Youtube and Viemo is also another good way of distributing our film, as now there are many people like Justin Bieber and Rebecca Black, who have become viral on the internet because of youtube.

-We could also distribute our film on websites such as firstlgithtonline.co.uk and indiemoviesonline.com, as they are for unknown filmmakers who want to become known and show other people their work. Firstlightonline especially, as it is for young people to show their talent and creativity. This is a great way for us to distribute our film.

-Our film was also shown at The screen on the green cinema, where evey media student came to look at each others work. Each media student will each recivev a DVD of  everyones film, which then they will show their friends, this is another good way of distribtuting.

EVALUATION; Q2

HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?

-When we originally started filming, we used the idea of having a little child who is possessed by dolls making her cut up and ruin dolls, so therefore we wanted to make the character also look like a doll.

-We were inspired by the character in Orphan, were there is a woman who makes herself look like a little girl, we liked this idea and wanted to interpet it into our own film.

-But, however, when we showed our filming to Pill and Mary, they did not approve and said that it was all too much, they advised us to change the character and just use a little girl in ordinary clothing and no make-up, at first we was not in agreement with this idea but then we realsed that it was all too much, so we went with the idea. We wanted to use an actually little girl , either my little sister or Ethel's, but as they had school when we were allowed to film, we could not use either if them, so therefore we used myself.

-We went with Phil's idea and came up with a completely different character - a little girl, looking very ordinary with pajamas on and no make-up.

EVALUATION; Q1

IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?

-When making our own title sequence, we looked at various title sequences for ideas and inspiration. We liked the idea of Sherlock Holmes' opening title sequence, the way he uses images along with the filming.

-The same effect of using images is also used at the end of the film to close it off.

-We also found another opening title sequence that uses a simliar effect, but the images are moving instead of still.

-We chose this effect as we wanted our film not so much to be unique but have a special element to it as we knew that no other group were going to do the same. We also wanted to challenge ourselves to see if we could make our own opening sequence good, just like Sherlock Holmes' and Juno's opening sequences.

EVALUATION; Q6

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK AND COMMENT.

» In todays lesson we all, as a class, looked at each others opening sequences and gave some strengths and improvements we could make for each group.

-The transition to the drawings were very nice.
-The dolls moving by themselves, very creepy.

-The cartoon animation
-The shot of the hand moving

-Very good camera work
-Lighting could of been better
-The volume of the soundtrack should of been lower
-Singing is very repetitive

-We took the feedback and put it into wordle.net - this helped us to see our strengths and weaknesses.

-Here is a filmed discussion of our title sequence.

-After watching our film in The screen on the green cinema, we got some feedback from other people about what they thought about our film.

ANNABELLE'S WHISPER.

» With the final cut complete, i feel so relieved, no more editing!
It was such a long process, now we just have to wait till 5th April, when we come together to watch our film as well as everyone else's and evaluate our work, but until we can all just sit back relax...

Final Cut

We have finally finished our opening to a thriller film.. this is it.. hope you enjoy it..

FINAL DAY OF EDITING.

» Today is last day of editing, so as a group we made sure that we all came to help put the final thing together. As Fatama didn't have a lesson today, she came in at 9'o clock to edit, making sure that everything was perfect. Adding the final touches including the sound me and Ethel composed last lesson and the titles of course.
-We all came after and worked together making sure we all were in an agreement with where the titles and transitions where placed.
-As well as that, we had to add the production company to the begging, 'Candi studios'.

-Adding transitions to the film. We decided cross dissolve works well with combining the animated pictures with the film.

CLOSE TO DEADLINE.

» With only 2 more days left till the final deadline, we had to get cracking! straight onto it!
-While Fatama was editing, adding the animated images in which she drew on and adding on transitions me and Ethel was putting together a soundtrack for our opening. Using Soundtrack Pro, we looked at various different sounds from pianos to guitars to help compose something that would go with the opening, as well as singing which Fatama previously recorded of her singing a well known children's lullaby, twinkle twinkle little star, we thought that this would and an effect and give it a more of a thrilling/mysterious yet ordinary feel to it.

-Images that Fatama drew with footage from the film , putting them together, with inspiration from Sherlock Holmes' opening.

-These are the original pictures we were going to use, but as Mary told us to re-draw them using a black marker to fit in with what is going on in the opening.

-And here are the re-dran pictures with black marker.

FEEDBACK.

» Phil and Mary came to look at our film and gave us some feedback and ideas, which would help us get more marks. Phil's idea being that we should use the idea of Sherlock Holmes' opening sequence, using animation to fit with the frame from the opening or just completely get rid of the parts were you see me drawing and just leave the parts were I am playing the the dolls, as well as having the drawn images. Mary's idea was to re-draw the images we already have and use a black marker, so therefore, it will fit in with what I am doing, drawing with a black marker.

-So taking that all in, we put the both together and decided to use the idea of Sherlock Homles' opening sequence but drawing them out in a black marker, so that it all ties in and fits with the rest of the film.

-So we took pictures of the frames we wanted to have drawn, Fatama was prepared to draw the animatic images so she took them home to draw ready for our next lesson to add them to the film.

COPYRIGHTED.

» In yesterdays lesson, we carried on with editing to make sure we meet the final deadline on 25th March.
-When looking for sounds we decided that we wanted to use the same one which we used in our animatic, the music box sound we found on youtube. However we found out that it was copyrighted, in this case we wasn't allowed to use it, we were so disappointed and had to think fast on what we could do, so then me and Fatama went on Soundtrack Pro and looked for some sounds which would suit our opening, we found a few and starting composing them together into one piece.

-This is what we originally wanted to use, but as it is copyrighted, therefore we couldn't.

» Luckily for us, if Phil and Mary didn't tell us to check if it was copyrighted we would have used it and lost marks for using copyrighted music.

ROUGH CUT EDIT.

» And here is our rough cut edit...

EDITING FOR ROUGH CUT.

» Today we started editing as we were told that we would have to post the first version of our rough cut on our blog. We got the pictures from Fatama's camera and cropped them down to size using photoshop.
-image > crop
Then using final cut pro we imported the pictures and added them with the clips we edtited together in our previous lesson. Some of the filming footage was dark, so we had to lightening them to make it fit in with the rest of the filming.
-effects > video filters > image control > brighness and contrast

ROUGH CUT.

» Yesterday, we starting editing, well not so much editing, more like putting the clips in the right order to insure that we at least have something for our rough cut deadline on 14th March. By the end of the lesson we ordered the clips in the desired order, it came to about 3/4 minutes.
-In our next lesson on Wednesday we will properly edit the clips down and also add in the pictures from our animatic idea.

DAY 2, FILMING; AT MY HOUSE.

» With our idea finally settled, we got straight to filming again. We filmied the whole opening again as lesson we got some feedback from Phil and Mary, they said that the costume was inappropriate for our new idea. And also, when looking back at our previously filmed clips, we realised that some of our establishing shots were out of focus, so therefore we had to film them again, making sure that they were in focus this time. This time, it took us quicker to film as it was more simple.

YET ANOTHER CHANGE OF PLANS...

» In our monday lesson, when it came to labelling and editing our clips, we realised that too much was being revealed in the opening sequence. So therefore, we decided to cut it down a bit. With the help of Phil and Mary, we decided that the opening should be simple, with not too much going on, in  a precious lesson Bernard suggested that we should included some of our animatic in the opening, as he thought that it was good and would be interesting to have the opening cut into the animatic. We told Phil about this idea and he showed us the opening to Sherlock Holmes, which inspired us with the idea of having drawn pictures of the animatic as well as filming footage.

We then decided that instead of having a narrative opening, which we wanted at the start, we changed our mind and decided that we wanted a descret/stylised opening where the titles only show on the animatic.

DAY 1, FILMING; AT MY HOUSE.

» Finally, we were all set and ready to start filming!

-Today was our first day of filming, we came into college to pick up our equipment; camera, tripod, spotlight, then went staright to my house, no time time to waste!
-We got to my house and decided to use my little susters room instead of mine as it suited more to our film. So we set up the loccation for our secne, putting teddies and dolls around the room to make it look like an ordinary little girls bedroom.

CHANGE OF PLANS...

» During the half term, we didn't have th chance to film, as we had a few problems...

-everything was going to plan, we were ready and set fro filming, however, when it came to actually filming, we couldn't! We didn't have the memory card in order for us to film. So, I went to college the next day to pick up the memory card, unfortunatly no one was there! meaning once again we couldn't film. Then on Monday, it was teachers training day, I went in again to pick up the memory card and unfortunatly this time two of our memory cards were missingm so I just picked up the one that was there, memory card C. Then went over to Ethel's house to hopefully start filming, and again, unfortunatly we couldn't! memory card C didn't work in the camera, so we just had to wait till we went back to college to find our other memoery cards.

-In the process of this, we had to change the location to my house as bernard said that Ethel's house is too far for us to travel there and back.

-We also found our other memory cards! We could finally start filming!
